We engage in fundamental and applied research, often in a European context. Furthermore, we develop education and training and support innovation and change.

Our projects

what we do

  • We develop and research collaboration and collaborative learning supported by new or existing technology.
  • We develop cybersecurity awareness workshops, training and research approaches.
  • We design and implement evaluation approaches suited for capturing (agile) development and collaboration.
  • We work in educational, public and corporate sectors, because learning occurs everywhere.
  • We are specialist in applying for and participating in international research and development projects, funded by the European Union (e.g., Horizon Europe, Erasmus program).

Our core values

innovative

In our work we challenge ourselves and others to think ahead, out of the box and in new ways. Our speciality is understanding interaction between people and between people and technology in the context of learning and development. We are able to open up new (learning) possibilities and to facilitate change.

Collaborative

We believe that our existence is relational and meaning only exist in a social context. Understanding collaboration in all its complexity is our work, and the way we work is collaborative in nature.

international

We work in national and international contexts. Our network consists of experts, researchers and practitioners in the domain of the learning sciences and cybersecurity awareness. Together we engage in research and writing, we develop (practices for) new technology or new practices for existing technology.

ABOUT US

Jerry Andriessen

JERRY ANDRIESSEN

is a senior researcher, a learning scientist, involved in international research and development on computers and collaborative learning. He is a pioneer in developing and using technology in educational settings since the very beginnings of Internet. He started his career with studying the role of computers for supporting coherent idea generation and sentence production in writing, where the computer had the role of expert and didactician (Alamargot & Andriessen, 2002; Andriessen, de Smedt & Zock, 1996). He also studied the role of intelligent computer support for learning (Andriessen & Sandberg, 1999). During the nineties, he experimented extensively with the use of discussion forums in higher education (Andriessen, 2006). He studied educational uses of argumentation, and collaborated in projects during which computer support for argumentation was developed (Andriessen, Baker & Suthers, 2003; Baker et al., 2006; van Amelsvoort, Andriessen & Kanselaar, 2007).

Jerry became involved in large collaborative EU projects, which all focused on new forms of learning. He started his own company to be able to devote more time to these collaborative projects. After that his research shifted to understanding the ethical dimension of collaboration, through analysis of emotions, as well as the educational context (Damsa et al, 2010; Andriessen, Pardijs & Baker, 2013). Through the company, he also pioneered in governmental and business contexts, first focusing on increasing the understanding of professionals in advanced computer support for collaboration (e.g., routetopa.eu), and now in promoting cybersecurity awareness through a social-technical approach in which cybersecurity is not merely a technical problem, but involves increasing people’s agency as well.

Mirjam Pardijs

MIRJAM PARDIJS

holds a master’s degree in Education Sciences and a primary school teacher’s degree. She specializes in educational design, collaborative learning and teacher training. After working in different contexts (educational publisher, vocational education, university, primary education) she joined Jerry in this company to be able to work on projects more close to her heart and have more time for research as well.

Mirjam is interested in all context where learning occurs, and is able to understand new (complex) topics easily. She develops (educational) programs and workshops focused on collaboration and understanding each other (for instance by using narratives or stories). In projects, her contribution lies in introducing new (complex) concepts to the table, analysing development and facilitating the (change) process.
